Attitudes and behaviors and how they affect martial arts business professionals.
School owners, market their schools in many ways. Some of the ways, surly not all would be Newspapers, fliers, television ads, and now social media Facebook, YouTube and Google. In the early 1990s management companies began to show up on the martial arts scene. Companies like Educational Funding and United Professionals became the new-
Right about now we should reflect on exactly how these management companies were able to succeed when before martial arts was just something we all did in our spear time.
The buzz in the martial arts community was “make a living by teaching martial arts full time. Whoever heard of such a thing?” Here is what happened. The management companies first attacked our attitudes as to who we were and how important the information we possessed would be too the general public.
Then they said people would pay us money if we learned some basic rudimentary business skills. Here is business skill number one, "people like to do business with people they perceive to be successful." So what did the management companies do? They had their school owners go out and buy a Rolex Watch for themselves, just to instill that feeling of success.
Martial arts school owners in the 90s were sporting a two thousand dollar Rolex Watches on their wrist. The amazing thing was, that little trick worked. The martial arts management companies were successful in changing the attitudes of these school owners. Almost overnight school owners were dressing different, talking different; their schools look better, neater, cleaner and had gotten bigger in square footage.
They were doing one more thing, they were advertising. Community leaders started looking at these martial arts school owners differently. All of a sudden our programs started to show up all over in schools, after care programs on almost every corner martial arts schools started to pop up.
Why? What happen? There had to be something else that could account for all of the sudden changes we were seeing. It turns out; feelings of being successful had changed school owners and martial artists’ behavior.
If you had a martial arts background why not open your own business. Okay you say, so what’s this all about?
Here’s the point. You can change people's attitudes about the way they feel about almost anything, but until you change their behavior and tell them exactly how to do what you want them to, and attach real feelings of accomplishment and fulfillment. You will at best only get hit and miss results.
How we plan to accomplish our Mission Statement,
What was one of the first things that management companies like Educational Funding taught us? Do you remember? They said 80% of all new clientele would come from 20% of our existing student.
The Virtual Martial Arts Competition has found a way to change those percentages dramatically, more to our favor. So how do we do this? Very simply, by doing exactly what we get paid to do. Teach. By competing virtually around 4 time in a year in tournaments I setup for my school as "In House Competitions", many thousands of dollars have been generated as income from the entry fees students pay to participate.
Parents love it, less expensive to compete, no traveling, no time spent, no food to buy and they are seeing their children getting involved in the creation of something that belongs to them; a well documented video archive of the students progress. Student love it because, it is in with the times. High Tech. This is so their generation. But most important, students like the difference it is making to their skills. In a video you are submitting to a competition, how many times will you do that move over to get it right before submitting the video? Improvements to the students skill level are happening by leaps and bounds simply because; it’s human nature; natural behavior to do your best.
Let's say your school has two hundred students. You tell your students of your intension's to compete online. Watch the excitement in their faces. You have in that instance changed the behavior of your whole school, two hundred students. Once the competition is in play, they are going to have their friends, not presently associated with your school but live in your community, come to our website and vote for their friends videos.
You as the school owner will receive a "Report" of all the log-
Thank you,
